A SUMMARY OF CYCLOID COMMANDS
(Read CYCLOID.DOC for a complete description of how to use these commands.)
D - Disk: sets number of gear teeth around disk
Ctrl-D - Makes Disk negative to switch to an outside rotation
R - Ring: sets number of gear teeth around ring
Ctrl-R - Chooses the number of lobes your design should have
P - Pen: places pen somewhere between the middle of disk and the edge
Ctrl-P - Toggles Pen Block mode, draws with block shapes instead of a line
M - Move: places next design somewhere else, 3 methods of moving:
Use arrow keys to move (+ and - change speed)
Hit U,D,R, or L to move some distance up, down, left, or right
Hit S to move to a specific spot, then enter coordinates (eg. 0,0)
S - Size: changes the design size, 3 options:
Constant, all designs will be the same size (Default size is 1)
Variable, changes in pen position will change the size naturally
Nested, next design will fit in hole in middle of current design
Ctrl-S - Toggles between Size Constant and Size Variable
Alt-S - Performs a Size Nested command (saves one keystroke)
T - Turn: rotate next drawing a given number of degrees
Ctrl-T - Resets design to begin drawing from beginning (normally it will
continue where you left off)
O - Oval: gives oval designs, 2 options
Ovalness, numbers less than 1 give vertical ovals,
numbers greater than 1 give horizontal ovals
Rotation, sets ovals at an angle
Ctrl-O - Switches between horizontal and vertical ovals
H - Hue: sets the foreground color, background color, and options
Multicolor, draws design in 2 or more colors
Length, draws 2 or more line segments before switching colors when
multicolor option is used
F1 to F10 and Shift-F1 to Shift-F6 change the palette colors on EGA monitors
Ctrl-H - (or BackSpace) Changes background on CGA, all screen colors on EGA
Alt-H - Changes all screen colors except the background
F - Form: toggles between input by number of gears and input by degrees
A - Again: input a string of commands to be repeated
Ctrl-A - run through the Again string of commands once
Alt-A - run through the Again string of commands repeatedly
W - Wipe: paints the screen with a color or a pattern, options:
Color, choose a solid color
Pattern, choose one of 100 patterns
Options, choose one of the following commands:
View, look at any pattern without painting the screen
(View 0 to see all 100 patterns, but this will erase screen)
Edit, design your own tile patterns
Consult CYCLOID.DOC on how to edit and save patterns
Tile color, change the default colors of tile patterns
Consult CYCLOID.DOC on changing the colors of your wipe patterns
File number, if you have more than one file of 100 patterns on your
disk, you can switch to a different file. You may have up to 10
different pattern files for each screen mode, called "PATTERN1.???"
to "PATTERN0.???" (Replace ??? with appropriate extension). The
files must be created by copying an existing file before they can
be used.
Ctrl-W - Wipe again with the last used color or pattern
L - Load/Save: stores designs in memory or on disk (if you give a file
name), 4 methods for restoring images:
Restore, brings image back exactly as stored
Negative, brings image back with colors reversed
Icon, adds image to present screen in a way that can be subtracted
Added, adds image to present screen
Ctrl-L - Saves present screen in memory
Alt-L - Loads screen presently in memory onto screen as an icon
E - Examples: draws sample images
Alt-E - draws random images in random places and adds them together
Ctrl-E - draws individual random images
B - Blank menu: erases menu until the next time you hit B
C - Clear screen: erases present screen image

Ctrl-Q - exits program immediately
V - Version: gives information about the program version
Ctrl-V - draws CYCLOID logo
? - Tutorial: runs a tutorial demonstration of the various CYCLOID commands
J - Jointedness: makes drawings smoother by multiplying Disk and Ring by 1.25
Ctrl-J - makes drawings less smooth by dividing Disk and Ring by 1.25
I - Initialize: Resets most variables to their default status
Alt-I - Memorizes present variables as new initialization default
Ctrl-I - Restores original initialization defaults
Z - Zilch: just wastes a second and makes some noise
Ctrl-Z - turns sound on and off
X - XYZ plotting: When this command is enabled, (see CYCLOID.CFG) it creates a
file in the current disk directory that is a 3-dimensional spirograph image
of the last design you drew. You must have ACROSPIN, or perhaps some other
3-D wireframe art program to view these 3-D images.
Alt-X - The same, but it creates a flat image file.
Ctrl-X - Changes the 3-D parameter.
When inputting numbers
? means let the computer pick a random number
@ means let the computer pick a random digit
# in an Again command string, means pause for user input
^ in an Again command string, means next command is Ctrl-key command
& in an Again command string, means next command is Alt-key command
+ means add this number to current setting (eg, +-5 subtracts 5 from default)
* means multiply the current setting by this number
/ means divide current setting by this number
[Return] without any input means accept the previous setting
Esc means get me out of here
Right arrow types one character of previous setting
Down arrow types whole previous setting
Left arrow backs up to insert or delete characters
Backspace erases characters
